Expanded capacity means quicker access for families!

Dr. Mia Galioto recently joined our team as a Child & Adult Psychiatrist.

Dr. Galioto had been working as locum in various locations, and recently spent a year at API. Alaska won her over, and now she’s here in a permanent position.

Dr. Galioto first became interested in child psychiatry after working at a rural Missouri hospital, and realizing she didn’t know enough to treat the young patients coming into the adult unit, because there was no children’s unit. So she did a 2 year fellowship in child psychiatry (except it took 4 years because she had two children and was working full time.)

She enjoys working with kids “because they are fun!” The hardest, but most rewarding part is helping their caregivers. Parents often don’t want to recognize what they see in their kids, or they blame themselves. “It’s terrible what parents do to themselves. I like helping them see things differently, too.”

After calling Chicago home-base for a while (Go Cubs!), she is happy to be in Alaska. She especially loves winter and cold weather!

Dr. Galioto performs psychiatric evaluations and medication management for both children and adults. She sees a lot of children with AHDH, oppositional defiant disorder, PTSD, depression and anxiety. She has immediate openings for new clients!
