Military families are used to adapting to new situations with strength and resilience. But military children may face mental health challenges due to the unique stressors of military life.

AKBH clinician Sicely Kluge and former AKBH clinician April McElhenny are members of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) Military and Veteran Families Program Workgroup.  For over a year, they worked with members of the workgroup to develop a factsheet for military families on understanding child traumatic stress.  Sicely and April’s clinical expertise and personal perspective as military families informed the tone and content of this factsheet.

The Alaska Child Trauma Center at Alaska Behavioral Health has been a member of the NCSTN since 2005.

We’re so proud to see our clinicians named as authors and their work published this month on the NCTSN website!
