Evidence shows that group therapy and skill development is effective at helping people experiencing a wide-range of mental health conditions.  At Alaska Behavioral Health, we have multiple options for virtual groups and outdoor, in-person groups available during the Coronovirus pandemic to help those with on-going or emerging mental health needs.  If you think you might benefit from a supportive, therapeutic group environment, please call for more information.

Who am I? Summer Identity Group for Teens
Wednesdays,2-4 pm  June 17 – August 5

The group will meet via Zoom and will focus on identity, sexuality, self esteem and healthy relationships.

Garden Group for Ages 15-23
Wednesdays, 12:00-2:30 – 3:00 June 10 – September 2

This therapy group uses gardening and plant growing as a means for promoting and practicing skills in mindfulness, relaxation and overall mental health education.

Connections Peer Support Group for Parents
Tuesdays at 3-4 pm, beginning April 28

This group is open to all caregivers and adult clients who have children.

Connections is a group that provides a safe, consistent place where our parents and caregivers can discuss life-stressors, self-care strategies, build social connections, and any additional topics suggested by group members. This group will provide a space where parents/caregivers can receive support from peers as well as clinicians to process challenging situations and experiences related to anything and everything (mostly regarding children), with an emphasis on the importance of self-care, peer connections, and support networks.

Stress and Anxiety Coping Skills Development
Wednesdays, 12 – 1 pm

This group is designed to educate, identify, and practice skills for early stress and anxiety management, and is appropriate for anyone who struggles with anxiety or depression who would like to learn coping mechanisms within a group setting. We will also be touching on COVID-19 related anxiety and coping mechanisms specific to the pandemic.  Open to any current or new adult clients. New clients will need to complete an  assessment with a therapist prior to joining the group.

COVID-19 Stress Management Group for Parents
Wednesdays 3-4 pm

This group is a combination of psycho-education and skill-building for managing home, work, child, home-schooling and other stressors related to structural changes brought on by COVID-19. Clinician Meghan Magone will be available for brief, solution-focused one-on-one consultation regarding information brought up in the group if needed. Open to any current or new clients who are parents/caregivers. New clients will need to complete a brief telephone assessment with a therapist prior to joining the group.

Anxiety Group for Adults
Wednesdays, 4-5 pm starting April 29

This group will learn about the cycles of anxiety, work on grounding exercises, mindfulness and calming/coping skills. Based out of our Fairbanks clinic but open to any current or new adult clients. New clients will need to complete a brief assessment with a therapist prior to joining the group.

Distress Tolerance Group for Adults
Thursdays, 11 am – 12 noon

This tele-health group will teach skills to help quickly regulate strong emotional reactions, such as anxiety and anger. The group will also teach mindfulness activities. The group will follow the DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy) model. Open to any current or new adult clients. New clients will need to complete a brief assessment with a therapist prior to joining the group.
