Alaska Behavioral Health and The Alaska Child Trauma Center provide training in trauma-informed care through partnerships with the National Childhood Traumatic Stress Network and the State of Alaska’s Trauma Training initiative.
The Alaska Child Trauma Center is a regional training hub for the SAMHSA-supported National Complex Trauma Training Network, a certified ARC Training Site, and the lead agency for the Alaskan Trauma-Informed Care Statewide Training Initiative.

- Annual Alaska Advanced Trauma Training Institute

TRAUMA 101

Trauma 101 training focuses on understanding how trauma impacts the body and the brain, how people adapt to trauma, and what we can do as providers, caregivers and community members to support recovery and resiliency. The Trauma 101 training is not a training on a specific type of intervention, but is focused on how we can use a better understanding of trauma to be trauma-informed.
Course options include a half day webinar or full day in-person training. CEU hours have been approved for State of Alaska Licensed Professional Counselors through October 2021. CEU hours for State of Alaska Licensed Clinical Social Workers have been approved through June 2020. Trauma 101 courses are taught by licensed clinicians at the Alaska Child Trauma Center.

Marissa Hanson, MSW, LCSW, Clinical Manager of Wrap-Around Services
Marissa Hanson, MSW, LCSW is a clinical manager and clinician at Alaska Behavioral Health. She has a Certificate in Interpersonal Trauma Studies and has been working with children and their families who have experienced trauma since 2010. Marissa provides trauma training and clinical consultation throughout Alaska.
Mara Hill, MS, LPC
Mara has been a clinician with Alaska Behavioral Health since 2015, when she graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage with a degree in clinical psychology and a certificate in children’s mental health. Mara enjoys facilitating preschool psychotherapy groups, eating peanut butter on fruit, and going outside.

Alaska Advanced Trauma Training Institute
Each year, the Alaska Advanced Trauma Training Institute features state and national experts who share about the latest research and advances in the neurobiology of traumatic stress, trauma-informed systems, and clinical interventions for complex trauma in children and adults.
This event is hosted by the Alaska Child Trauma Center with support of the State of Alaska, Division of Behavioral Health.
