The Medical Team provides services at several locations in Anchorage and Fairbanks, depending on the age of the client.

Walk in Hours for Psychiatry
Child & Adolescent Walk-In Options:
Established child & adolescent clients may visit either of our Child & family Clinics for walk in services at the following times. Services may be provided via telehealth or in person.
- Mondays, 3 to 5 pm
- Tuesdays, 4 to 5 pm
- Wednesdays, 2- 3 pm
- Thursdays, 2- 3 pm

Adult Walk-in Options:
- Tuesdays, 8 – 12 noon for established adult clients in Anchorage at 4020 Folker St
- Wednesdays, 8:30 – 11: 30 am for established adult clients in Fairbanks at 1423 Peger St
Psychiatry
We provide psychiatric medical care to people of all ages and all walks of life. We provide services to all psychiatric issues at all stages of recovery. Our services include:
- diagnostic psychiatric evaluations
- medication and symptom management
- medication administration
- coordination of care with case managers, therapists, primary care providers and other medical specialists
Internal Medicine
Alaska Behavioral Health is pleased to offer internal medicine/primary care for our clients. Clients access primary care services through our adult clinics in Anchorage and Fairbanks. Common conditions addressed include:
- Annual wellness checks
- Health maintenance and promotion, disease prevention
- Counseling and education regarding medications and diagnoses
- Treatment of acute illnesses
- Treatment of chronic illnesses/conditions, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, thyroid disorders and diabetes
- Laceration repair and foot care
- EKG’s
On-Site Pharmacy and Labs
We partner with Genoa Healthcare to provide on-site pharmacy services in both Anchorage and Fairbanks. Close coordination between our providers and pharmacy staff reduces medication errors and allows us to resolve issues quickly.
We are able to perform basic labs on-site. Some lab needs may need to be referred to an outside lab.

Our team consists of psychiatrists; advanced nurse practitioners (ANPs); physician assistants (PAs); psychiatric nurse-case managers (N-CMs); family nurse practitioners; nationally certified medical assistants (NCMAs); certified nursing assistants (CNAs) and administrative support staff.
Medical Team
Dr. Curt Wengel, MD, Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Curt Wengel, Chief Medical Officer, is a board certified child and adult psychiatrist and loves working as part of a team that includes therapy and wrap-around services to fully meet the mental health needs of our clients. Dr. Wengel trained at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He and his family are excited to live in a place with snow!
Jessica Estes, DNP, APRN-NP, PMHNP – Chief Nursing Officer
Dr. Estes, DNP, APRN-NP, PMHNP is a lifespan certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who received her initial licensure in 2004 after graduating from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. In 2013, she obtained her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the University of Kentucky, focusing on Provider Knowledge of Urine Drug Testing for her dissertation. Dr. Estes served on the ACEN board of commissioner co-chairing the committee that developed accreditation guidelines for nursing residency programs. Prior to moving to Alaska, she served as the Executive Director for the Kentucky Board of Nursing. Her populations of interest include geriatric mental health, substance use disorders, and crisis stabilization for severe and persistent mental illness.
In her spare time, she plays co-ed softball, bakes cakes, and spends time outdoors hiking and camping. She loves all things Christmas!
Linda Keddington, DNP – Advanced Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Doctorate (Fairbanks)

Linda Keddington, DNP, holds a Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree from University of Northern Colorado. Her professional interests include treating adult psychosis, mood disorders, depression, and anxiety. Her personal interests include outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking, biking, and SCUBA.
Virginia Walker, ANP – Adult Psychiatric Advanced Nurse Practitioner
Joseph DeLong, MPAS – Physician Assistant, Fairbanks
Joseph DeLong, MPAS, is a Physician Assistant working out of our Fairbanks clinic. He is interested in adult, pediatric, and peripartum mental health. Joe moved to Alaska for the opportunity to work in mental health as a PA, and for the outdoors. He enjoys spending time with his dog, cooking and getting outside as much as possible.
Marieke Heatwole, ANP – Adult Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Marieke Heatwole, ANP – Adult Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is a lifespan certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Marieke (sounds like ‘Marika’) is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and is currently working toward certification in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
She is open-minded, non-judgmental, and sincerely interested in sharing her knowledge and experience in offering tools to help patients on their path to wellness.
When not in the office, Marieke can be found on two-wheels exploring the single-tracks of South Central with her four-legged companions.
Jason Martin, PHMNP – Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
Jason Martin, PHMNP, has Masters of Science in Nursing and is board certified in adult psychiatry and mental health. He treats an array of patients with Serious Mental Illness (SMI), depression, anxiety, ADHD/ADD, Obsessive Compulsive disorders, and addictions through the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic and our Anchorage outpatient clinic. Jason utilizes Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment therapies along with medication management, taking a holistic and personalized approach to care. He spent 30 years in the military, and has been providing mental health care for 10 years.
Myra Kelly, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC – Family Nurse Practitioner

Myra Kelly, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, is from Southeastern Kentucky. She works with adults and children, providing primary care. Her hobbies including cooking, fishing, and spending time with her family.
Jared Martin, FNP – Family Nurse Practitioner
Jared Martin, FNP, provides primary care services for clients. Jared is a retired National Guard Member who has served two deployments in Iraq. He received his master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati and is Board Certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Jared previously graduated from Idaho State University with a bachelor’s degree (BSN) in nursing. He worked as a registered nurse in the ICU. He enjoys “anything outside”, spending time with family, and working.
Larry Kelly, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC

Larry Kelly, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC, is from Southeastern Kentucky and recently moved to Fairbanks. His hobbies include fishing and spending time with his family. He works primarily with adult clients at Alaska Behavioral Health’s Fairbanks Adult Clinic.
Susan Matthews, PhD, APRN, FAANP

Susan Matthews, DNP, APRN, FAANP has been providing primary care for patients for more than 20 yeas and added behavioral health in 2018. She has degrees from University of Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky University and Western Kentucky University, and is certified in EMDR. She is a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for children, and is a Certified Judge for professional BBQ and Steak Cookoffs! Susan works remotely for Alaska Behavioral Health from her home in Kentucky, but you can also sometimes find her standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona.
