Depression is one of the most common mental illnesses. One in 5 adults in the US are diagnosed with depression sometime in their lifetime. More than 8% report a major depressive episode within the last year.
So how do you know if you're sad or depressed? Sadness is a normal human emotion that usually is linked to a specific event and is temporary. Depression is persistent and on-going, and may not have an identifiable cause. It typically requires treatment.

New program alert - one week from today, our children's partial hospitalization program will start in Fairbanks! PHP provides intensive short-term services for children ages 9 - 17 experiencing acute mental health challenges. Our staff are excited to offer this new level of care in Interior Alaska, helping kids get better while staying with their families, in their community.

School-based services make it easier for busy families to access mental health care for their children. Meet Emily Branham, our new Clinical Associate!
Emily has always been inspired by the beauty of Alaska, but her true passion lies in helping others. As part of our NEW IOP program, Emily provides essential therapeutic support, helping kids improve on daily functioning through skill development and social/meal time. What she loves most? Creating a safe space that many kids say 'feels like home.'
When she's not helping her clients grow, Emily is working toward her graduate degree in Clinical Counseling and spending time with her two adorable dogs. Fun fact: She loves baking, even if she claims she’s not the best at it!
