Our medical department is dedicated to helping our clients improve their lives through a coordinated approach to care involving clients, their caregivers, their clinical staff and primary care providers. Accessing Services

The Medical Team provides services at several locations in Anchorage and Fairbanks, depending on the age of the client.

Walk in Hours for Psychiatry

Child & Adolescent Walk-In Options:

Established child & adolescent clients may visit either of our Child & family Clinics for walk-in services at the following times. Services may be provided via telehealth or in person.

Please note: there is limited availability for walk-ins each day; please call the front desk at 907-563-1000 as early as possible to let them know you are coming.

  • Mondays, 4 – 5 pm
  • Wednesdays, 9 -10 am, 2- 3 pm

Psychiatry

We provide psychiatric medical care to people of all ages and all walks of life. We provide services to all psychiatric issues at all stages of recovery. Our services include:

  • diagnostic psychiatric evaluations
  • medication and symptom management
  • medication administration
  • coordination of care with case managers, therapists, primary care providers and other medical specialists

Internal Medicine

Alaska Behavioral Health is pleased to offer internal medicine/primary care for our clients. Clients access primary care services through our adult clinics in Anchorage and Fairbanks.  Common conditions addressed include:

  • Annual wellness checks
  • Health maintenance and promotion, disease prevention
  • Counseling and education regarding medications and diagnoses
  • Treatment of acute illnesses
  • Treatment of chronic illnesses/conditions, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, thyroid disorders and diabetes
  • Laceration repair and foot care
  • EKG’s

Primary Care Walk-in Hours

Walk-in hours are available for primary care in Fairbanks for established clients only.

Tuesdays, 9 – 11 am

On-Site Pharmacy and Labs

We partner with Genoa Healthcare to provide on-site pharmacy services in both Anchorage and Fairbanks. Close coordination between our providers and pharmacy staff reduces medication errors and allows us to resolve issues quickly.

We are able to perform basic labs on-site. Some lab needs may need to be referred to an outside lab.

Our team consists of psychiatrists; advanced nurse practitioners (ANPs); physician assistants (PAs); psychiatric nurse-case managers (N-CMs); family nurse practitioners; nationally certified medical assistants (NCMAs); certified nursing assistants (CNAs) and administrative support staff.

Curt Wengel, M.D.
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Wengel is a board certified psychiatrist and is excited about working as part of a team that includes therapy and wrap-around services to fully meet the mental health needs of our clients. Dr. Wengel comes to us from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He and his family are excited to live in a place with snow!.

Adult Psychiatric Provider - Fairbanks
Linda Keddington, DNP, holds a Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree from University of Northern Colorado. Her professional interests include treating adult psychosis, mood disorders, depression, and anxiety. Her personal interests include outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking, biking, and SCUBA.

Susan Matthews, PhD, APRN, FAANP
Psychiatric Provider -
Susan Matthews, DNP, APRN, FAANP has been providing primary care for patients for more than 20 yeas and added behavioral health in 2018. She has degrees from University of Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky University and Western Kentucky University, and is certified in EMDR. She is a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for children, and is a Certified Judge for professional BBQ and Steak Cookoffs! Susan works remotely for Alaska Behavioral Health from her home in Kentucky, but you can also sometimes find her standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona.

Joseph DeLong, MPAS, is a Physician Assistant working out of our Fairbanks clinic. He is interested in adult, pediatric, and peripartum mental health. Joe moved to Alaska for the opportunity to work in mental health as a PA, and for the outdoors. He enjoys spending time with his dog, cooking and getting outside as much as possible.

Jason Martin, PMHNP
Adult Psychiatric Provider - Anchorage
Jason Martin, PHMNP, has Masters of Science in Nursing and is board certified in adult psychiatry and mental health. He treats an array of patients with Serious Mental Illness (SMI), depression, anxiety, ADHD/ADD, Obsessive Compulsive disorders, and addictions through the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic and our Anchorage outpatient clinic. Jason utilizes Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment therapies along with medication management, taking a holistic and personalized approach to care. He spent 30 years in the military, and has been providing mental health care for 10 years.
