POWER Youth Drop-in Center

Dear friends, families, and community partners of the POWER Center and Alaska Behavioral Health,

For years, the POWER Center has provided low-barrier access to basic needs, community resource referrals, and connections to mental health support for youth in our community. We are proud of the role the program has played in creating a safe and welcoming space for young people while supporting their growth, stability, and well-being.

Over the last several years, use of this resource has declined, and other options have become available in the community. In a tight fiscal environment, it no longer makes sense to maintain the program as it has existed. The POWER youth drop-in center is closing as of June 30, 2026.

Going forward, young people age 18+ will be able to access many of the same resources through our Gambell Street Drop In Center (1231 Gambell Street, open 8 am – 3 pm Monday – Friday.) Alaska Behavioral Health will focus on providing mental health treatment services for youth under 18 through our other programs. Our commitment to supporting youth, promoting resilience, and improving access to needed services continues.

The POWER Center has been more than a program. It has been a place of connection, support, and community, and that impact will not be forgotten.  We deeply appreciate all of the Peer Outreach Workers over the years who have fostered this caring environment for youth: you have made a difference!

We are grateful for all of the community support of the POWER Center throughout its many changes over the years! From our time at the Transit Center to our location at 2601 Arctic Boulevard, your partnership, encouragement, and commitment to transition age youth have kept the POWER Center going and meant so much to our staff.
