Service members, veterans and their families are served through all of our programs and clinics with evidence-based, culturally competent care.

Cohen Military Family Clinic

The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Alaska Behavioral Health provides confidential, high-quality behavioral healthcare services and local resource connection to post-9/11 veterans (including National Guard and Reserves), their families, active duty service members and the families of active duty service members, which includes spouse or partner, children, parents, siblings, caregivers, and others. Services are available regardless of discharge status, role while in uniform, combat experience, ability to pay or insurance. The Cohen Clinic offers individual therapy, group therapy and skill development.

Child & Family Outpatient Clinic

Child & Family Outpatient Services include in-person services at our clinics in Anchorage, Wasilla, and Fairbanks. Clinicians work within select schools in Fairbanks and Nenana. Telehealth is offered to clients throughout Alaska. All of our evidence-based practices for children incorporate family therapy. Assessment and therapy services are provided by master’s level clinicians who receive training in our evidence-based practices to provide the highest level of care. When indicated, additional wrap-around behavioral health supports provided by clinical associates is available.

Little Tykes Therapeutic Services

Our Little Tykes program in Anchorage provides comprehensive wrap around services for children ages 3-5 and their families. Services are provided in a structured, safe, secure, nurturing environment led by mental health professionals. Group Therapy looks much like a typical pre-school, with an emphasis on social emotional learning. Children learn to express and manage their emotions, leading to healthier functioning in other areas of life including home, community, and school. Support services such as family therapy and caregiver group therapy help parents understand their children and master relationship and communication skills to help their child develop into happy, healthy children.

Intensive Services for Children & Teens

When children and teens are in acute crisis, weekly therapy may not provide enough support. Our Intensive Outpatient Program in Anchorage, and Partial Hospitalization Programs in Anchorage and Fairbanks provide daily opportunities for group therapy and skill building to help clients learn the skills to function well at home, school and in the community. These programs can help young people in crisis avoid the need for hospitalization or provide a step-down in care from hospital or residential treatment.

Adult Outpatient Clinic

Our adult outpatient clinics consist of clinicians, clinical associates, and peer support specialists working together to provide comprehensive behavioral healthcare services to adults who experience mental health challenges or life stressors. Medication management is available through our medical services team. All services are designed to assist individuals in their goals of recovery.

Partial Hospitalization Program for Adults

Our Partial Hospitalization Program for Adults (ages 18 and up) is a short-term intensive therapy program for adults experiencing severe and/or persistent depression, bipolar and other mood disorders. The program includes medication management, intensive therapy and skill-building to help clients regain stability, improve quality of life, and avoid the need for higher levels of care or step-down from higher levels of care.

Intensive Community Services for Adults

The Fairbanks and Anchorage Intensive Case Management (ICM) teams work with adults who have acute mental health needs and require ongoing support. The ICM teams provide community-based evaluation, outreach, support services, advocacy, community living and problem-solving skills, and assists individuals with achieving self-sufficiency. Members of the team include clinicians, clinical associates, vocational specialists, substance abuse specialists, peer support specialists, and psychiatric nurse practitioners.

Peer Lounge in Anchorage

Our Peer Lounge in Anchorage is a safe space for adult clients or those interested in becoming clients to engage and build community. The Peer Lounge is located 1231 Gambell Street, on the second floor, and is open Monday – Friday, 8 am to 1 pm for drop-in, and 1 – 3 pm for scheduled client activities. The Lounge offers access to showers, laundry, food and a kitchen, and is staffed by peer support specialists.

Adult Mental Health Residential Program

Alaska Behavioral Health provides mental health residential treatment for adults with acute mental health needs who have not responded to outpatient treatment, have needs that cannot be met in a less-restrictive setting, or would benefit from further treatment following inpatient psychiatric hospitalization.

Adult mental health residential treatment provides medication services and individual and group services with a focus on skill development including communication, problem solving, and conflict resolution; life and social skills to restore functioning; and self-regulation, anger management, and other mood management skills.

Psychiatry & Primary Care

Comprehensive psychiatry and primary care services are offered through our Medical Department.
